THE MAIN HOUSE

Following detailed discussions with Reading Borough Council’s conservation officer, and in response to comments received to date, a number of significant changes will take place in the main house.

The historic main ground floor rooms of the house will now be communal spaces and therefore require less intervention. There is also a reduction of the previously proposed mezzanines in rooms identified as being more significant as well as use of the library as a communal space, preserving its integrity as a principal room.

Restoration work now includes the opening-up of the outer hall ceiling volume. This is led by photographic evidence of its former grandeur and the reinstatement and restoration of the bay window in the original dining room.

Less sensitive parts of the listed building are now proposed for conversion to individual dwellings. In total, the conversion of the main building will result in the delivery of 65 much needed assisted living units.
